Beatport is about to expand their categorisation with a host of new entries to cater for the ever growing electronic music genres that exist and are created every day.
The change comes after Beatport, subsidiary of SFX entertainment, avoid being sold off. In order to avoid a sale, Beatport was slimmed down and the focus was put back on the store, ditching side businesses such as the streaming service.
Categorisation of content is always hard no matter which industry, and Beatport is not making the mistake of trying to make all decisions by themselves. They have formed a panel of Djs that will help define which categories tracks should go into. As an example, now common genres such as Future House and Big Room will soon make their appearance.
